She stayed with Columbia Records until 1967, then she moved to Atlantic Records, and then the results had been almost immediate as a result of the expanded artistic freedom she had along with her new label. The Queen of Soul has also been recognized by more than one President of the United States. In 1999, President Bill Clinton gave Franklin with the National Medal of Arts, and then President George W. Bush awarded Franklin the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.
